BRYAN ADAMS

interview By Metal Mick (the beard) Staley

MG : You have new album out, what can fans expect from it compared to previous work?
BA : I can't really compare the album “11” to anything other than the one before this one which was recorded in the same manner, on tour and in hotels and backstage. it's my eleventh album of completely original music - outside of unplugged records, live records and anthology's. When I was playing with the idea of what we were gonna call the album, I was working with a designer and I mentioned maybe calling it “11”, he sent me something back, and immediately looked at it and I said: “It looks great.” it..s so simple.

MG : You have been around a while now, when would you consider to be your best era?
BA :I If you were judging it from a recording/hit record point of view then the 90's. i was on tour non-stop from 1991 - 1995. I hardly went home at all, i was just out there in the world collecting air miles and counting white lines on the highway.

MG : I first got interested in you from the Reckless album and its still my favourite, which of your albums is your favourite and why?
BA : I don't have a favourite, i don't listen to my albums after i finished them, but i'm always pleased to hear songs when they come on the radio in the car or something.

MG : What keeps you motivated after all this time?
BA : The same thing that got me motivated in the beginning, i love making music. I would do it all day long if i didn't have so many other things i like to do.

MG : Why do you think you can still pull in the fans, old and new today?
BA : It's gotta be the songs doesn't it? they have a life of their own and some of them have grown so incredibly big, i have to shake my head and pinch myself.

MG : What do you think made "everything i do" such a massive hit when it isn't really regarded as one of your best recordings?
BA : Who said it wasn't one of my best recordings? what makes something a better recording than another and who is to judge? thankfully that song went to number one in the Uk before the release of the film it was tied to, which again is a testament to the song. I believe it is one of those songs that has a universal melody and a lyric that is unforgettable, again, simple works.

MG : Who do you most admire , and why?
BA : I love black singers from the 50's, 60's and 70's, ray charles, marvin gaye, donny hathaway, stevie wonder, gladys knight, temptations, sam cooke, willie dixon...on and on. i also love loud guitars. so figure that out.

MG : Do you still get nervous before shows?
BA : Yes frequently, but i try not to think about it too much. it's just normal to get a bit jittery before going up and exposing yourself. having to be 'on' all the time. it's a lot of pressure, but at the same time it's incredibly fun to be able to sing and sing full out, for as long and as loudly as i want
MG : How do you like to relax?
BA : I go to sleep

MG : If you could go out for any meal of your choice what would it be?
BA : probably italian food.

MG : And finally........ How would you like Bryan Adams to be remembered
BA : Just as a decent fella who wrote a few good songs.
