'Skeletons in the closet'
2009
Review By Metal Mick (the beard) Staley
Bands seem to get to a certain stage in their career, then someone says, ‘I know let’s do a covers album.’
Unfortunately the rest of the band rarely disagree, don’t get me wrong, the odd cover fine, but a whole album of them!
No band in my opinion has ever 100% pulled this off, as they pick songs they like, but not necessarily suit the bands style either musically or vocally.
The odd track may turn out well as, ‘War inside my head’ (formally Suicidal tendencies), ‘Mass Hypnosis’ (Sepultura) and ‘Silent scream’ (Slayer), but as a whole the album is just a bands self indulgence.
This hopefully will now be out of their system and C.O.B. get back to the stuff we love ‘em for.
I think they are also trying to show us that they have a sense of humour with some of their choices, such as, ‘Just dropped in to see what my condition was in (Kenny Rogers!) and god help us, ‘Ooops I did it again (Shitny, sorry I mean Britney Spears!). All I can say about the latter is, ‘Why the FUCK!!!!’
C.O.B. go on to murder ‘Aces High’ (Maiden) and classics by, Billy Idol, Anthrax, Poison, Alice Cooper and W.A.S.P
Finally all I can say is avoid this like you would Swine Flu and buy C.O.B.’s good stuff instead and also pray this is all now out of their system, until someone mentions the dreaded concept album!
