'HAMMERFEST 2'
Prestatyn, Wales 2010
Review by Metal Mick ‘the beard’ Staley
Here we were again at Pontins to enjoy another weekend of pure metal and if it is to be as good as last years Hammerfest then bring it on!!
As I suspected it was yet another fantastic weekend of beer a plenty and more bands than you can mention, the highlights to be Five Finger Death Punch and Iced Earth with a Devil Driver chaser.
As you walk round the place you get the usual vibe of anticipation, but this year I think we should rename the festival Tit Fest, as there seems to be an abundance this year of scantily clad young ladies.
Thursday night for me brought out the best band of the weekend, Beholder, Simon and the boys have come on leaps and bounds since I first saw them a few months earlier at HRH3. Simon has a huge stage presence in more ways than one and bar Benji from Skindred, has to be the best frontman of the weekend.
This leads me onto the said band, Skindred, who just seem to get better and better live. I for one am not a massive fan of their music on CD, but live they are a different animal and I defy anyone not to enjoy themselves at one of their shows.
Malefice gave a powerful performance and loved every minute of it, i particularly liked their cover of Pantera's,'Broken'
Five Finger Death Punch also put on a great show, and showed why they were fast rise to the top.
Iced Earth were a slight disappointment to me, although they played an array of their back catalogue, at times it seemed a bit laboured, but great to see them over here again nonetheless, and Mr Schaffer promised to return to these shores later in the year when I spoke to him after the show.
On the weekend as a whole though, this was yet again an event to remember and for those of you who have still not made the trip to Wales, make sure you make the next one as its becoming a must in the metal calender
