'The Torture Never Stops'
2011
Review By Simon Legg
Zuul FX are a French band, which means we Brits can’t like them right?
Well Fuck all that xenophobic shit because this band are pretty freaking good.
The third album from this tight thrash outfit wears its influences with pride; heavy accented English vocals, reminiscent of Max Cavelera roar over a Panteraesque chug.
Elsewhere Anselmo’s scream/whisper vocal style is employed throughout with a blast beat here and a cookie monster vocal there thrown in for good measure. The lost in translation ‘ I want to kill you like they do’ kicks off this(yawn) zombie concept album with a ‘Hell’s Bells’ chime that is as scary as a five year old’s trick or treat.
‘The Torture never stops’ doesn’t break any new ground but there’s enough variation to keep you interested. The drumming in particular is amazing with more than a nod to the great paintbrush bearded Chris Adler. Overall these songs sound like unused tracks from ‘Far Beyond Driven’ but that’s the point, It’s good enough to be under par Pantera, and that aint too shabby at all.
