Job For A Cowboy, Whitechapel, Annotations Of An Autopsy and Trigger The Bloodshed. (Norwich Waterfront 9/11/2010)
Review By James Hammond
Where to start! What a brutal tour line-up the JFAC guys have gathered for the UK tour. With 4 of the most brutal bands you can get hold of on one line-up, I couldn’t wait to get in.
By the time I got in, “Trigger The Bloodshed” were half way into their set. But what I caught seemed fairly good. They seemed to be getting the crowd going with their death thrash metal and the crowd that had arrived so far seemed to be lapping it up quite well. Suffering slightly due to sound problems they did the best they could with an early and short set.
Annotations Of An Autopsy were up next; being the local boys they pulled in quite a crowd. Playing about 40 minutes worth of pure death metal the crowd were going mental. Chucking in as many songs as possible and starting as many circle pits and walls of death as they could. Telling the crowd that all their mums and dads were in the crowd and explaining that the guitarist mum was “his kinda woman” the vocalist seemed to be having a great time, as did the rest of the band. Finishing off with “Sludge City” I was sad to see them leave. For me, the best of the night.
Whitechapel next, and fuck me that bass boom they tested during the sound check almost stopped my heart! Whitechapel seemed to get the biggest crowd of the night, and they were going mental. Just like AOAA’s crowd, it was mosh pits galore throughout the whole set. Playing a lot of material from the latest album and throwing in a few of the older songs the set seemed to go down well with all the fans. I personally wasn’t too amazed. To me it all sounded a bit samey, maybe I caught them on a bad day going by other gig reviews. They were really energetic on stage and giving it their all. A heavy as fuck sound fuelled by 3 guitarists (I thought only Iron Maiden could pull this off??!!) really did test your hearing as all 3 guitarists play different things during the songs. Probably not a band I’d go out of my way to see again but none the less, glad I got to see them.
And finally, Job For a Cowboy. I did notice before they came on that the crowd had whittled down since Whitechapel were on but none the less they put on an awesome performance. Playing a shit load of new material and throwing in the fan favourites (Knee Deep) was a personal favourite.
Job had a really tight sound tonight and played a lot better than when I saw them at this year’s download festival. Even though the crowd had dropped slightly in numbers the band just didn’t give a shit. Churning out brutal song after brutal song the onslaught just didn’t stop.
After seeing the band I would definitely recommend seeing them again when they next appear this side of the ocean. With a new album slowly getting started I can’t wait to hear some new material.
A gig well played lads, keep it up!
