GAMA BOMB FRONTMAN RESPONDS TO U2 MANAGER'S FILE-SHARING ARTICLE ON GQ

Having released their 2009 album, TALES FROM THE GRAVE IN SPACE, online as a completely free download, GAMA BOMB's strong feelings about file-sharing largely oppose the views of many other musicians and artists. TALES FROM THE GRAVE IN SPACE - which remains free to download to this day - has sold just as many physical copies of the album in the short time since its release as the band's previous album has to date, indicating that the open availability of the album as a free download hasn't in fact harmed the band's sales.

PAUL McGUINNESS, manager for fellow Irish rockers U2, recently posted a lengthy article for GQ Magazine (http://j.mp/aABfPk) in which he discusses his views on the problems of file-sharing.

GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE has written an open letter to PAUL McGUINNESS in response to his article. An excerpt follows:

"U2's manager Paul McGuinness' recent article is well-reasoned, well-informed and commendable in its aims - though it's crazily short-sighted. It falls at the last hurdle when envisioning future solutions to the problems file sharing causes for the music industry, and is filled with logical blind-spots on the current state of the business. He's got the numbers right, but the headspace is all wrong. "To his credit, Mr McGuinness is here wading into an argument that, as he notes, often involves untold abuse for those willing to stick their oar in. Furthermore, it's one that doesn't affect his untouchably profitable bread-and-butter, U2. So who am I to gainsay him?

"Last year my band Gama Bomb released their third album free of cost as a download with the permission of our record company, Earache Records. This, to my knowledge, makes us the first signed band ever to do so.

"We took this step because we personally consume music in this way and were aware our previous albums were largely being consumed as shared files. To release another CD in the traditional way seemed futile. Also, as a band playing a niche form of music on a small budget, we were aware of the potential PR power of such a move. The label agreed, we did it, and that's why I feel qualified to dust off my soap box on this one."

OZZFEST 2010 TO HIT THE UK

The legendary touring behemoth that is OZZFEST is set to hit the UK with a one-off date at London’s O2 arena on September 18th 2010. OZZY OSBOURNE will be accompanied on the main stage by KORN, MURDERDOLLS and SKINDRED, plus a special guest TBC, with more acts still to be announced for the second stage. In addition to the music on offer, OZZY and co will take over the entire O2 complex, offering up a Village Of The Damned, with fairground rides, stalls and tattooists.

The 2010 package will be the first UK OZZFEST show in over five years, and is also the first time the O2 features a general admission format on the lower bowl; GA ticket holders will be able to choose between watching the show from seats, or the specially enlarged standing area. Top level tickets will also be available offering the usual seating.

Headlined by OZZY OSBOURNE, the legendary Prince Of Darkness will lead the charge. OZZY - who’s solo albums have all achieved top 40 chart success in the UK - is currently gearing up to release his 10th studio album “Scream”, which will hit the streets on June 21st. With his recent book “I Am Ozzy” enjoying top 10 positions in book charts the world over, the time is perfect for OZZFEST’s return to the birthplace of metal, and with the awesome supporting cast that OZZY brings with him, fans are in for a truly special day. Flying in from Bakerfield, USA, the multi-million selling, Grammy Award-winning KORN will be showcasing new material from their forthcoming new album, “Korn III - Remember Who You Are”, whose first single ‘Oildale (Remember Who You Are)’ is out today.

OZZFEST will also offer the opportunity for UK fans to give MURDERDOLLS a hearty welcome back from the dead after a six year absence. JOEY JORDISON and WEDNESDAY 13 return with “Women and Children Last” at the end of August, and their set at OZZFEST will see the horror-rockers airing brand new material for the first time since their 2002 debut.

Welsh raga-punks and former KORN touring partners SKINDRED come armed with a truly unique blend of metal, punk, rap and reggae for their O2 arena debut. Charismatic frontman BENJI WEBBE expresses his delight at being part of the most well established touring package in the world of metal.

SPINEFARM RECORDS TAKES TO THE ROAD FOR THE "BONESHAKERS 2010" UK TOUR

Kiuas, Metsatöll + Celesty confirm run of nationwide shows together
FOR THE first time in the label’s history, three acts signed to the Spinefarm label will embark on a series of UK shows in tandem, flying the flag for epic heavy metal (Finnish five-piece KIUAS), authentic folk metal ( Estonian quartet Metsatöll) & dramatic power metal (Finnish sextet Celesty).
KIUAS, who have played in the UK on a number of occasions, including an appearance at the Bloodstock Open Air Festival plus a full run of dates with Firewind, will headline all of the shows, with Metsatöll providing the meat in the middle, and Celesty (who have also featured on the Bloodstock bill) opening the bill.
KIUAS recently released their latest album, ‘Lustdriven’, supported by the single/video ‘Of Love, Lust & Human Nature’, following hard on the heels of ‘Aio’ – Metsatöll‘s first release for the Spinefarm label.

Celesty’s latest offering, ‘Vendetta’, came out in 2009, and saw the six heading deep into symphonic / progressive rock territory, with tracks such as ‘Lord (Of This Kingdom)’, ‘Like Warriors’ and first video ‘Fading Away’ showing that musical ambition doesn’t have to lead to any loss of power. Latest news from the camp is that the band now have a new frontman, with previous singer Antti Railio having recently been replaced by Tony Turunen – brother of former Nightwish frontwoman, Tarja.

REMEDY are pleased to say they're well on their way to completing their debut album, due for release in May 2010.

Recently finished recording at the North East's top recording studio Blast, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, the band are travelling to London in April to have the album mastered by the legendary Jon Astley.

Britain's EVILE have unveiled a tribute website to their late bassist, MIKE ALEXANDER, who tragically passed away on October 5th 2009 while the band were on tour in Sweden.
