ONE WAY MIRROR
Saturday 14th February 2009
interview By James'Hammy' Hammond

After a surprisingly quick drive up the Norwich Gavin and Myself (Hammy) walked round the back of the venue to find out where we would be interviewing One Way Mirror.
Little did we know that we would be invited onto a monster tour bus with Guillaume Bideau (vocalist) and Franck Potvin (Rhythm Guitar). After taking in the sweet smell of a sweat filled tour bus we sat down on the sofa and got talking!

MG: "Hey guys, how is the tour going so far?"
OWM: "Hello, yeah man the tour has been going really well. All of the shows so far have been crazy and it’s been loads of fun."

MG: " How has the new album been received?"
OWM: "Really well! Everyone at the shows seems to be enjoying it and we are enjoying playing it, which I suppose is a good sign! But yeah, we’re all pleased with it and everybody seems to be as well."

MG: "Are you pleased with the result?"
OWM: "Yeah definitely. We kinda went into the studio with the mentality of creating a very diverse album that anybody could pick up and listen to. There’s some screaming, really heavy riffs but also some really lighter melodic parts. There’s something for everyone here. We went with the idea of someone who wants to start listening to metal could pick up this cd and have a really good introduction. As I said, it’s very diverse and hopefully appeals to a very wide audience."

MG: "How long were you in the studio for?"
OWM: "Well we did a lot of it in our own studios etc but I reckon we were working on it for about 2 months or so before it saw the light of day. It was a really cool experience and everybody was really involved in the entire process."

MG: "Was it fun to make?"
OWM: "Yeah man it was really cool. Everybody was messing around and drinking a lot so we never got much work done haha. But it was really fun to hang out with all your friends and make a kick ass album.

MG: "What are your plans for the rest of the year?"
OWM: "Well we pan to tour with as many people as possible to really get ourselves out there and promote the album. I reckon about 6 or 7 months of promotion so that we can go to as many places as possible. We really enjoy playing live so we want to do it as much as possible."

MG: "What or who were your main influences on the album?"
OWM: Where do we start? We’re into everything man. We were listening to some Motown shit earlier on but later on after some beers we all love a bit of Pantera. Every time they come on we all go "WOAH!!! PANTERA!" haha. We try to mix it up as much as possible and listen to as much different music as possible. It really opens us up and we get loads of ideas from all types of music."

MG: "Any favourite moments from the tour so far?"
OWM: "In Glasgow some people at the front had prepared a special dance to one of our songs! It was really cool to see people doing things like that. They were at it all night and it was really funny.

MG: "If you could tour with anyone who would it be?"
OWM: "We’re pretty big Muse fans. I think those guys are easily the best live act out there at the moment. Ive seen them twice and would be honoured to play a show with them."

MG: "Where would you play?"
OWM: "Well we haven’t gone to Japan or Australia yet and we’d like to do some dates there.
Hawaii would be cool as well. I don’t give a shit if 2 people showed up. Playing a metal show in Hawaii would be cool."

MG: "What do you think of the food over here?"
OWM: "I love full English breakfast. We had one the other day with like everything on this massive plate and I think im an addict now! They’re so nice. I quite like Jamie Oliver so anything he cooks I try to make."

MG: "What about the weather?"
OWM: "Well we were expecting like rain and shit but most dates we’ve been to we’ve been wearing fucking shorts man! It’s really weird. One day it can be really shitty but the next it can be pretty hot. It’s weird."

MG: "What’s been the highlight of your career so far?"
OWM: "Probably making and releasing the album. It was really fun and cool to see our cd in the shops. Everybody was getting drunk all day so it was cool.

MG: "Any chance you can shed some light on your set list?"
OWM: "Well we usually get to play 6 or 7 songs but we mix it up a bit and change songs around to keep it fresh. We’re also playing a Frankie Goes To Hollywood cover! Just for the hell of it. We’re hoping to come back next year and play some like Amy Winehouse shit or something haha."

MG: "What are your views on the whole file sharing thing that’s going on and has it affected you at all?"
OWM: "Obviously it’s been a big blow to the industry but cd’s are so expensive now I can see why people do it. Back in France a cd is like 20 euros (I inform them that cd’s over here can be anywhere between 10 and 20 pounds). Once cd’s get cheaper people will buy them. Personally I say that everybody steals something. If you cant afford the cd then fucking download it. See if I care. I saw our cd on a torrent website and downloaded it but the quality was so bad that I don’t really mind people downloading it."

MG: "Finally, any messages for any fans reading this on the site?"
OWM: " Go naked in the street and kick a cop up in his arse."
And on that note the interview was over. We then were waiting anxiously for One Way Mirror's set to see what their live performance is like. As well as the Frankie Goes To Hollywood cover!
