'Death Rituals'
2009
Review By Jim Suffolk

Being quite a big death metal fan I was keen on listening to the new six feet under album. But I soon realised it was not anything amazing.
The main thing that didn’t work for me was the vocals. Chris Barnes sounds like he is almost hurting himself by doing the vocals on this album.
To me it seems as though he has gone downhill over the years.
First song “Death By Machete” is a fast song full of blast beats and some proper death metal chug at the end, musically I love it, I think the band has some great potential but it’s just the vocals that don’t sit in the mix.
The start of the second track “Involuntary movement of dead flesh”, again I felt it has been let down by the vocals. The start of the song just sounds like somebody grunting at the microphone. The vocals throughout the rest of the song sound really forced, you can hear his voice shaking at times and it’s just a bit of a letdown because the music is fantastic.
None Will Escape” and “Eulogy for the dead” don’t really seem very amazing and could have easily been left out of the album.
Seed Of Filth” however is a really catchy song. The main riff is a true death metal chug that you can bang your head to. Im starting to get a little tired of the vocals now. Fair dues to Chris I mean he’s been in cannibal corpse and is one of the biggest names in death metal but maybe it is time to hang those boots up and give it a rest? Every other song on this album has amazing potential but the vocals just don’t fit in. Most of the vocals sound really forced and shaky so he obviously really has to force himself to do it.

Unfortunately it made the rest of the album a little pointless to me. If I were able to get a copy without the vocals I’d love it. The music is amazing but the vocals are not.
I wouldn’t really recommend this album to anyone other than die-hard Six Feet Under fans really. By all means give it a listen but don’t expect to be amazed
