'Soilwork/One way mirror'
Hammersmith Apollo
Review by James 'Hammy' Hammond
After an amusing interview with One Way Mirror, Gavin and I waited anxiously for the show to begin. Unfortunately the venue is only half full when One Way Mirror burst onstage.
But the fans that have bothered to turn up get one hell of a show. Playing most of the new album (including the Frankie Goes to Hollywood cover!) the show is truly amazing. Kicking off with 'Destination Device' they have the crowd in their hands within seconds. All of their music is really catchy and really sets the mood for later on. Other standout songs included 'Sockracer',' Relax' and 'Deprived of Connection'.
The blend of metal with synth’s works really well and the entire crowd love it. I personally didn’t know what to expect from their live performance but I have to say it was breathtaking.
The band really enjoyed their selves and were wanking off the mic and air humping to everything. One band I suggest anybody should see if they get the chance. Good things are to come with One Way Mirror. With MMMM that was 4 M’s well earnt. A slight lack in diversity held them back but other than that a faultless live show!
Now the band we were here to review. Unfortunately only 5 or 6 more people have drifted in before Soilwork start which was a real shame. Come on people we need to support our venues unless we want them to suffer the fate of the London Astoria.
Soilwork didn’t seem to give less of a shit about this because their performance was amazing. As they launched into the newest albums title track "Sworn to a Great Divide" I was blown away. The crowd was already going nuts and the band really seemed to be enjoying themselves.
I don’t think ive seen a band in the Waterfront give such a performance. They could have given the same performance to a sold out London Hammersmith Apollo, it was so good. They must have been bloody exhausted afterwards however!
Their set differed greatly from their recent Bloodstock appearance and they included songs from most of their back catalogue including "Needlefest', 'Stabbing The Drama', 'Bastard Chain' and 'As We Speak'
Leaving the crowd in awe they were soon back for another couple of songs. The noise that the half full Waterfront crowd made deserves some respect. I’ve heard quieter crowds at sold out gigs. Soilwork now know who their true fans are and must respect them for it. Final song of the night was "Follow the Hollow" and it was an unfortunate end. The crowd was screaming for more but realised it was the end.
Definitely worth 4 M’s
An amazing night only let down by the lack of fans. What was happening people of Norwich!
Hammy out.
