Tripswitch
'Until'
2009
Review By Nick Ivanov
Ahhhh the refreshing sound of Tripswitch. At first listen to this EP you get the feel that this is a very tight band with very few limits, which makes it difficult to decipher genre.
After the endless silence, followed by an interlude of clever tick tocking beats, press stop and then play again, and again ............. well it had that effect on me !
Now lets slow things down, because over the past few years the metal scene has been ever changing and new have become old very quickly ( and some old becoming new ) and the new listeners seem to prefer bands who wear eyeliner, trousers under their arse, and sing about hate, whilst shredding like its gone out of fashion. This is all very well, but doesn't mean or add up to much at the end of it all.
It's rare nowadays to find a band that sounds so fresh and different from the rest, and I mean a good different, not the different where you get looked at funny walking down the street and people generally trying to avoid you, but different in a way that it makes you want to sit up and listen.
Forget all your New Metal, blast beats and full on screamo vocals that just fill your head with mush trying to make sense of it. Make your way back to the 90's where you'll find all the fundementals that form Tripswitch, combined with the odd fill of drum and bass.
That's me summing them up in a nutshell, but the best way is to listen yourself and hear the sound and structure of this ready to rock you outfit called, Tripswitch.
Easiest way to get a copy of this EP is to log onto their site www.tripswitch1.com or by attending a live show, where you can usually pick up a copy after the gig, and see and listen to how technically gifted these guys are !
Tripswitch emergeing out of Lincolnshire have already melted the faces of an array of venues supporting acts throughout the UK. Check their website or myspace for gig listings.
The next one is 19th January 2010 @ The Axe and Cleaver, Boston.
The EP with 5 actual tracks on, gives off a massive sound ! Heavy riffs, good time changes and a melodic feeling, a damn good listen.
They remind me of the likes of, Tool, Machine Head, Clutch and Slipknot with an essence of Mastodon thrown in for good measure. One last thing, listen out for track 5 and wait for the middle eight, EPIC !!!!!
